Here are my top picks for enjoying a nice adult beverage in the Traverse City Area:
1. Knot Just a Bar- I know I know, it is not in Traverse City. But if you have been out to Omena which is just past Suttons Bay on M-22, you will understand why I recommend this place. The views in and of itself are worth the drive out. This restaurant/bar is absolutely right on Lake Michigan and the views are completely unobstructed. Great sea food menu (if you like that sort of thing) great burgers and other dishes. But the best thing to do in my opinion is sit on the deck as the waves come into the beach and just soak up how wonderful it is to be in Northern Michigan. Fantastic bartenders and full service bar make this place my favorite spot.
2. North Peak Brew Company- Located downtown Traverse City this Brewery boasts a fantastic deck to hang out on during the summer months. Typically in the evening they have live music and if you are lucky enough you may hear Traverse City's own Levi Britton.
3. Poppycock's- Again located right down town Traverse City. This place is a year round destination. Mostly indoor seating but they feature jazz music most Friday nights and their hummus and home made pita chips are fantastic. Great prices on drinks and a great bar staff makes this one of favorites.
4. Phil's On Front- Right down town next to Chase Bank. Phil's on Front has a cozy little bar section and a killer drink menu. Fantastic Bar staff and food menu barely puts this one in front of our next selection.
5. Red Ginger- Right across from Chase Bank down town Traverse City. This Sushi oriented restaurant has an amazing selection of wine, beer and a great liquor selection. Expect this to be the most expensive stop on the list due to its swanky atmosphere. This is where you want to be seen if you have some money and like to people watch. My wife and I typically just sit down at the bar which looks out at the busy street out front and watch the tourists come and go.

Those are my top five best places to enjoy a drink in Traverse City Michigan. While there are a ton of great honorable mentions: Bubba's, U&I Lounge, Kilkenny's etc, these places consistently deliver a fantastic drink and an even better experience.
